February 2008 - Parish Magazine Update
February is a busy month here at Chapel Lane Pre-school, with the continuation of our winter celebrations. Shrove Tuesday links in well with our current term's theme of Fairy Tales and Nursery Rhymes. As well as making pancakes, the children will also be able to hear the story, 'The Big Pancake' and as a result, continue their development in communication, language and literacy.
Making and eating pancakes is also a good way of encouraging the children to continue experimenting with their different senses. As part of this activity we will provide the children with a range of different sweet and sour toppings, giving them the chance to sample different tastes and smells and textures.
Two other February events will encourage the children to 'get crafty' this month. for Valentine's Day the children will make a surprise for someone special. Also, as Chinese New Year happens to fall in February this year, the children will be able to make a Chinese Lantern and at the same time find out about an important event in another country's calendar.
As a result of our committee's excellent fundraising over the Christmas period, we are delighted to announce that we have invested in a new PC system for the pre-school. The new system includes a 'child friendly' keyboard, with large, brightly coloured keys and a children's mouse. It is a lot sleeker that our previous PC and as a result is easier to access on a more frequent basis. The children are really benefiting from furthering their learning on the PC more regularly.
